Shana Cutaia

With over 30 years of service with the Pittsford Central School District (PCSD), Superintendent Michael Pero has announced his retirement. His last official day as Superintendent will be December 1, 2025. He has agreed to stay on through January as a Deputy Superintendent to assist with the transition and oversee the Business Office while the Assistant Superintendent of Business is on medical leave.

Pero began his career with PCSD in 1994 as a health educator at Pittsford Middle School. He later became assistant principal, then served as principal of Barker Road Middle School, assistant superintendent for human resources, and was appointed superintendent in 2013.

“Mr. Pero is a compassionate leader who has steadfastly championed our District’s mission, vision, and values throughout his tenure,” said Robin Scott, President of the Pittsford Board of Education. “We thank him for his skilled leadership and unwavering dedication to the students and staff of Pittsford Schools. The entire Board of Education wishes him good health and happiness in his well-deserved retirement.”

Congratulations to Mendon High School student Youyou Wu for winning the Congressional Art Competition (Rochester district) with her painting, “Paddling Near Home: My Rochester.” She was recognized at a June 11, 2025, celebration hosted by the Congressional Institute in Washington, D.C. The competition is a nationally recognized program sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives.

MHS groundbreaking ceremony

Mendon High School Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony took place at Mendon High School on May 12, 2025, to officially mark the start of construction for a two-story addition that will be built on the north side of the building for science and language classrooms. The existing science classrooms will be renovated for safety purposes and will align with the Sutherland High School facilities.

In a special ceremony on June 5, 2025, fourth grade students from Pittsford’s Thornell Road Elementary School shared their newly published book, “Our Shining Stars of Freedom: The Stories of Our Veteran Heroes,” with the local veterans who inspired its pages.

As part of a class project led by teacher Mrs. Stevens-Oliver, students interviewed 19 veterans to learn about their service and lives. The resulting book, a collection of those personal stories, was officially presented during a special event at the school attended by the veterans and several distinguished guests.

Congratulations to our Mendon High School students who brought home first and second place wins at the 2025 DIGIES digital art festival! Izzy LaNasa won first place and Maddy Powell won second place in the category of Video Arts.

The Digies is an annual digital media festival run by the School Library System of the Genesee Valley BOCES. It encourages students to be active creators of digital media and celebrates their achievements.

Two Pittsford elementary teams represented New York at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals at Michigan State University in May—earning top placements among global competitors! The Park Road Elementary team placed 8th out of 52 teams in “The OM-Mazing Race” vehicle problem category. The Mendon Center Elementary team placed 14th out of 45 teams in the “Mech-Animal Sidekick” technical problem. This year marked Pittsford’s 37th year participating in Odyssey of the Mind—with 37 teams competing this year. Sixteen advanced to the state tournament. Congratulations to all our Pittsford Odyssey of the Mind teams for their hard work and representing Pittsford at the regional, state and world tournaments!
